Mitochondria And Cancer What’s The Connection

The 21 Day Sugar Detox Program!

Mitochondria And CancerMitochondria and cancer let’s discuss why the process of fermentation must be avoided.

The most vulnerable part of our cells is what’s called mitochondria. The relationship between the mitochondria and cancer is a delicate one. Mitochondria are the little organelles inside of a cell that take glucose and oxygen, and very efficiently produce a lot of ATP.

ATP is the energy currency in biological systems. For example, if you want this pump to work on the cell membrane you may need 4 ATP a second, and this one is 35 ATP per second, etc. It is the currency of biological energy. The main factories for that energy production are the mitochondria. Mitochondria are dispersed in plenty around the cells.

Now, because they have oxygen in them, they are flammable, metaphorically speaking. Just like somebody who’s got an oxygen mask on has been encouraged not to smoke a cigarette. It’s the same kind of thing because it’s flammable. Oxygen produces oxidative by-products, which are damaging.

That’s why mitochondria are replaced so frequently, they are the only organelle in the cell that has its own DNA. It does not rely on the DNA of the nucleus of the cell.

It has its own DNA, which, by the way, we inherit from our mothers. Your longevity is based on your maternal history. But no one even knows their maternal history because our mothers are eating junk and living an unnatural lifestyle.

As a result, we don’t know how long they would’ve lived if they had a healthy lifestyle. For that reason, I never take a family history. It is irrelevant.

These organelles that are responsible for the production of energy allow the cell to do what it’s got to do. However, they are vulnerable. If the cells are living in a sea of toxins, these toxins are getting through the membrane and affecting the cell.

The organelles that will expire first are the most vulnerable and those are the mitochondria. When you lose a certain critical mass of mitochondria, the cell will die because it no longer has the energy necessary to keep its metabolic functions going.

What does the body do? The body does what it always does. It starts doing a homeostatic dance to keep us alive. And the homeostatic dance in the face of this situation is to go into a fermentation or glycolysis.

Glycolysis or fermentation is what our body does when it is unable to metabolize with oxygen. As an example, let’s say you are not a regular runner and you get up and you run about two blocks.

Dr. Thomas Lodi Discusses Mitochondria and Cancer Growth

At the end of the two blocks, your thighs are on fire and aching. Why are they on fire? Because you exceeded your aerobic capacity and now your body went into glycolysis, or anaerobic metabolism, or fermentation, all the same thing.

What’s the by-product of fermentation? Lactic acid. The lactic acid is what is causing your legs to burn. What do you do? You stop and take a lot of breaths.

When you do that, you’re blowing off carbon dioxide which balances out the acid or the PH. And, because the cells in your muscles still have plenty of mitochondria, you go back to aerobic metabolism.

Regarding cancer, they don’t have the mitochondria, they’ve been beaten up and they can’t get back to aerobic metabolism. They stay in a chronic lactic acid production and they are chronically fermenting cells.

When a cell is getting its energy through fermentation and it’s not using oxygen it no longer needs antioxidant enzymes, so it gets rid of them. Remember, in glycolysis or fermentation, 1 molecule of glucose only produces 2 ATPs.

In comparison, with aerobic metabolism, 1 molecule of glucose with the oxygen produces 38 ATPs. That’s a significant difference. In fact, it’s 19 times the difference.

Cancer cells are 19 times less efficient at energy production. To survive, they need 19 times more fuel or more glucose. That’s why cancer feeds on sugar.

That’s why PET scans are done. When a PET scan is done, happens? We inject fluorodeoxyglucose, which is a radioactive glucose. Then we scan the person and we look wherever there’s a rapid uptake.

If the uptake of glucose is high enough, then we can say that there’s some cancer there. We’re looking at its metabolism based on glucose.

And then you go to that same doctor and he says, “It doesn’t matter what you eat.”! The person replies, you mean I can eat sugar? The doctor replies, absolutely, no problem.

Then, the person asks, how come you didn’t want me to have sugar? How come I had to come in fasting for this test? Doctor replies, don’t ask me these questions, I went to medical school.

At An Oasis of Healing, we help ensure your mitochondria are producing the optimal energy needed to maintain good health. Reach out to us if you or a loved one are in need of help in regards to cancer.
