Cancer is a metabolic disease. Those were the words of Dr. Thomas Seyfried. Dr. Seyfried authored a book called Cancer as a Mitochondrial Metabolic Disease. When you look at the effect of vitamin c on cancer, it really becomes clear that it is, in fact, a metabolic disease. So, how does it actually work? Well, when you look at vitamin c, it’s actually not directly vitamin c that is killing the cancer cell. What’s it’s actually doing is the vitamin c, via the IV route of administration, is increasing the production of hydrogen peroxide on the outside of the cell or the cancer cell. It is then the hydrogen peroxide level outside of the cell that’s transported inside the cancer cell which in turn increases the high iron content within the cancer cell. This is important because the hydrogen peroxide actually acts as a secondary messenger to induce and result in high hydroxyl free radicals. These hydroxyl free radicals are toxic oxidative molecules that bind to iron. If you find oxygen binding to iron on the body of a car, it’s called rust. So, essentially what we are seeing is that rust effect inside of a cancer cell. This builds up this high oxidative stress, oxidative damage, and then the cancer cells lack the ability to eliminate that process. This is the effect that intravenous high dose vitamin c through the secondary messenger of hydrogen peroxide, through its interaction with iron that induces cancer cell death.
